Open Forum during the MALL Business Meeting on Monday, May 19th

Hello, MALL!

I hope many of you are looking forward to celebrating our 70th anniversary during the MALL Spring Meeting on Monday (the agenda and registration link are here - registration ends today).

Also, during the business meeting component of the MALL Spring Meeting, the MALL Executive Board will host an open forum to encourage discussion about any issues on the minds of our MALL members. Everyone attending the meeting will have the opportunity to raise any issues of concern and/or share thoughts about furthering our organization and the law library profession. If you are not able to attend the MALL Spring Meeting, but would like to contribute thoughts for discussion during the open forum, please email me and I will share your contribution with the membership.

2025 AALL Advocacy Training: Legislative Advocacy Basics

Good Afternoon.

AALL is hosting a training session on legislative advocacy basics. It will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at 11am (CST). This is an important session given the IMLS Executive Order that’s expected to negatively impact funding for libraries so MALL members with AALL membership are strongly encouraged to attend the session.

2025 AALL Advocacy Training: Legislative Advocacy Basics

Tuesday, April 29, 2025 (11am - 12pm US/Central)

Legislative advocacy is essential to making a difference for the legal information profession. This training will teach you skills to advocate for public policy issues. You will learn how to build effective partnerships and influence lawmakers while contributing to solutions for current information policy issues. This is an especially important time to learn or refresh these skills.

This training will be recorded and registration is open to AALL members only.

MALL Grants and Scholarships - There is still time to apply!!

MALL is also scheduled to participate in the Chapter Registration Grant opportunity for 2025.

Reminders from AALL: This grant may only be awarded to an individual who has not yet registered for the Annual Meeting & Conference. AALL will not issue refunds to anyone who has already registered. This grant offers one complimentary registration for the 2025 Annual Meeting & Conference to a newer member of AALL (less than 3 years membership), who is also a member of MALL. Recipients receive recognition in the AALL Awards Brochure.

The application process for all grants, awards, and scholarships is due April 11at 5:00 pm (CST).

As a previous scholarship recipient, I know that every little bit helps. Apply today!

MALL Member-At-Large

Hello all,

Due to health issues I will no longer be able to serve as the current Member-at-Large. It has been a wonderful experience, and I have learned a lot about MALL and law librarianship during my time serving. We will be needing to elect a new member at large. This position is a fantastic opportunity, especially for those who are haven’t done a lot of work with MALL or AALL. The main commitment is monthly board meetings to discuss things like the MALL website, funding, and the spring meeting.

Nominations for Two (2) AALL Government Relations Committee Awards - Due March 1

Have you, or someone you know, worked hard to advocate for AALL polices? Have you made an effort to protect and promote public access to government information? If so, consider applying for the AALL Government Relations Committee's two annual awards. The deadline for nominations is March 1, 2025.

Public Access to Government Information Award

Established in 1998, the Public Access to Government Information Award is given to recognize persons or organizations that have made significant contributions to protect and promote greater public access to government information. More information about the criteria and nomination process can be found at the PAGI Award page.

Robert L. Oakley Advocacy Award

Established in 2008, the Advocacy Award is given to recognize an AALL member or group who has been an outstanding advocate and has contributed significantly to the AALL policy agenda at the federal, state, local, or international level. The award honors the memory of Robert L. Oakley, AALL's Washington affairs representative (1989-2007). More information about the criteria and nomination process can be found at the Robert L. Downtowners Fall Meeting - October 3rd

Join your fellow law librarians on Thursday, October 3rd at Winthrop & Weinstine for a Downtowners meeting! We plan to discuss conferences people attended over the summer and topics for future meetings. We are also considering re-naming the Downtowners group to be more inclusive to members outside of the downtown area. Come with your creative ideas!

Feel free to bring your own lunch and we will provide dessert & beverages.

When: October 3 - Noon to 1pm

Where: Winthrop & Weinstine (Capella Tower – 225 S 6th Street, on the 35th floor)
