    Duties/Responsibilities

    This position is covered by the AFSCME Technical Union. Union/Fair share deductions may be made.

    Overview:

    The Library Assistant III supports the operations of the University of Minnesota Law Library Circulation Department.

    Responsibilities:

    40% Circulation Desk Operation and Department Management Assistance: Supervise and maintain the routine operation of the Circulation Desk. Open and manage the library circulation and reserves desk during scheduled times. Staff the Circulation Desk for at least fifteen hours per week during designated times, and other times as needed for coverage. Respond to user inquiries pertaining to law library services and policies. Independently determine where to direct patrons to library services, areas of collection, or other departments to best suit their needs. Supervise and maintain study room reservations page. Respond to reserve collection requests. Respond, as appropriate, to patron concerns regarding situations affecting the safety, security, and usability of the Law Library. Promptly resolve customer service problems and relay concerns to other Law Library staff as appropriate. Instruct and assist users in the operation of reference computers, photocopiers, Gopher Gold dispenser, microfilm/fiche reader/printer and other equipment as needed. Maintain department operations and respond to patron inquiries in the absence of the Access Services Librarian.

    25% Departmental Student Employee Management: Hire, train, and supervise library circulation desk student employees in consultation with the Access Services Librarian. Manage student employee scheduling, organize workflow, and oversee staffing of the circulation desk. Design, implement, and execute training/orientation program for student employees. Maintain and update circulation desk procedure manuals. Instill importance of strong customer service attitudes upon student employees and act as a model of good service. Conduct performance reviews with circulation department student employees and, in consultation with the Access Services Librarian, make recommendations for promotion of student employees. Responsible for taking appropriate disciplinary action or terminating student assistants, in consultation with the Access Services Librarian.

    10% Looseleaf Collection Management: Responsible for administration and management of the looseleaf collection. Coordinate with Acquisitions Department regarding missing materials and ordering updated materials. Frequently check the online library system to monitor status updates for looseleaf supplements. Prioritize filing, organization, and distribution of looseleaf periodicals. Personally handle and respond to issues associated with foreign language and problematic sets. Train and supervise staff and student employees in filing looseleaf supplements, emphasizing importance of accuracy.

    5% Library Communications: Maintain circulation department bulletin board which advertises new materials and library announcements. Collaborate with the Access Services Librarian on other library marketing and communications as requested.

    5% Library Events: Plan law library-hosted events in collaboration with the Access Services Librarian. Oversee and facilitate decorations, setup, and cleanup of events with help of other circulation department staff and student assistants.

    15% Other: Manage patron statistics information and conduct periodical patron counts. Manage and update faculty SSRN pages. Assist with occasional website update projects. Assist with course reserves and faculty TWEN sites as necessary. Conduct weekly library facility walk-through with Access Services Librarian. Assist with book repair and other cross-departmental projects as needed.

    Fredrikson & Byron P.A., one of the largest business law firms in Minneapolis, currently has a position in our Library and Research Services Department for an Electronic Resources Librarian.  Responsibilities include:

    ·         Working with library staff and prospective users to evaluate new electronic resources for purchase.  Includes gathering information on cost, relevancy, and authoritativeness.

    ·         Managing the firm’s digital resource portfolio through the resources’ life-cycle. Purchasing new electronic resources, coordinating necessary training with library staff, managing passwords and license information, providing usage statistics related to the renewal, and coordinating steps to discontinue access.

    ·         Providing first-level support to users of electronic resources such as BNA, CCH, RIA Checkpoint and others.

    ·         Serving as administrator of the firm’s electronic resources management system (OneLog). Monitoring its effectiveness, coordinating and evaluating data on electronic resource usage, and implementing improvements as identified.

    ·         Facilitating implementation of new tools and resources that enable attorneys to more efficiently access electronic research resources.

    Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science and 2+ years of relevant work experience in supporting electronic resource lifecycle activities.  Experience resolving product and service issues with vendors, outstanding communication, collaboration and client service skills also required.  Prefer experience working in law firms or other professional services and experience with business and/or legal research tools, such as Lexis or Westlaw, CCH, BNA, PLC, BLAW and others.

    Job Summary – Reporting to the Provost, the University Librarian provides administrative leadership for Bush Memorial Library, the Law Library, and the University Archives and will serve as Hamline’s initial leader of its newly consolidated library system, with an annual budget of approximately $3 million and 27 staff members.

    The University Librarian will be a dynamic and creative library leader with an advanced understanding of the changing information needs of faculty and students, digital technologies, proven communication and organizational skills, experience in strategic planning, budget management, and fund raising.

    The incumbent will work with administrators and faculty in the College of Liberal Arts, the School of Law, the School of Business, and the School of Education to strengthen academic programs and promote the University’s strategic directions.

    Duties and Responsibilities – Working with the Provost and other Hamline administrators, the University Librarian is responsible for planning and library service delivery during a period of rapid change in the information environment. Duties include:

    • Leading the University Library staff in reimagining library learning spaces, services, and collections;
    • Engaging the campus community in exploring the central role that the University Library can play at Hamline and developing library facilities and services that will enable the community to optimize opportunities for research and scholarship, undergraduate learning, and graduate/professional education in a collaborative environment;
    • Developing and promoting new resources in electronic media and technology;
    • Overseeing the recruitment, retention, professional development, and evaluation of high quality library staff;
    • Managing the comprehensive needs of the University libraries, while addressing separate areas’ needs (including compliance with ABA Law Library Standards);
    • Managing the University Library’s fiscal resources and actively participating in grant and fund raising activities; and
    • Representing the University and its Library at the local, state, and national levels.

    Minimum Qualifications -

    • A Master of Library Science, or the equivalent, from an ALA accredited program;
    • A minimum of five years of progressive experience at an academic, research, or law library;
    • Outstanding communications and organizational skills; and
    • Demonstrated experience in professional leadership, strategic planning, library financial management and library human resources.

    Desired Qualifications -

    • One or more additional graduate degrees such as a doctorate or subject masters;
    • Demonstrated experience in a library system with an academic law library;
    • Academic experience at an institution with a liberal arts undergraduate curriculum and Schools of Business, Education, and Law;
    • Experience in planning and delivering innovative academic library facilities and services; and
    • Demonstrated success in fund raising at an academic institution.

    Library Administrative Specialist

    We are seeking a full-time Library Administrative Specialist for our Minneapolis office.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Processes invoices for payment, identifies client billing for online services; Submits invoices to Financial Management, records payments in Excel and in EOS. Runs reports as needed.
    • Checks in print and electronic mail and maintains EOS records; periodically runs EOS overdue report to identify missing items & updates; identifies lapsed subscriptions, adjusts predictions; enters new serial titles into EOS.
    • Maintains library email (processes subscriptions arriving via email, forwards email content on to attorneys and staff, and deletes older email); identifies new subscription passwords and relays information to librarian.
    • Prepares and monitors library operating budget
    • Performs collection maintenance activities: contacts publishers, cancels subscriptions, tracks scheduled orders (tickler system), orders new library materials, re-orders lost materials.
    • Shares responsibility for library management system (currently EOS); troubleshoots EOS system problems
    • Has primary responsibility for maintaining St. Paul library collections: includes loose-leaf and other filing, shelving, and general upkeep of collection. Back-up responsibility for Minneapolis collections.
    • Back-up responsibility for processing library materials.
    • Edits invoice processing instructions as needed.
    • Applies and communicates departmental policies to all firm employees.

    • General computer skills necessary to inventory and maintain databases and tracking procedures. Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.

    • Work occasionally requires a high level of mental effort while producing a high volume of information performing other essential duties

    The Minnesota Legislative Reference Library seeks applications for the position Reference Services Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of reference services of the library in a professional, non-partisan and politically neutral manner. The successful candidate must be an experienced and resourceful librarian.

    Qualifications: Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association-accredited program; a minimum of two years of management experience; five years professional reference experience in a highly-accountable setting; demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of electronic sources, including online library catalogs and commercial database services; excellent communications and interpersonal skills. Previous legislative experience preferred.
