    Director, Kresge Law Library at Notre Dame Law School

    Notre Dame Law School invites applications for the position of Director of the Kresge Law Library.  We seek a leader who can create a vision and develop and implement strategies that respond to the demands of an ever-changing law library environment in the twenty-first century.

    The Director is responsible for all aspects of planning and administration of the Law Library, including strategic planning; budgeting; hiring, management and development of library staff; collection management; library services; computer and information services; and space planning.  The Director (in coordination with library faculty members) will also have teaching expectations in legal research or other areas as appropriate.  The Director reports directly to the Dean and works closely with faculty and staff members to provide library services supporting scholarly research and the law school curriculum.  The Law School is particularly interested in a Director who can provide innovative leadership in an educational and research environment that is increasingly dependent on electronic resources.

    Qualifications: We expect the applicant to hold a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and a Masters degree from an ALA-accredited school of library and/or information studies.  However, we will consider other exceptional applicants who do not possess both of these degrees if they otherwise provide a compelling case.  In addition, the successful applicant will have:

    • demonstrated ability to bring vision, strategic thinking, and coherent planning to an academic or comparable environment;
    • demonstrated ability to innovate and adapt to a rapidly changing environment;
    • background in and vision for use of technology/electronic resources in a law library;
    • significant management experience in a law library or comparable environment, reflecting progressive improvement and responsibilities;
    • knowledge of a wide range of library and information resources and services;
    • a passion for incorporating technology into research, instructional, and law practice tools;
    • significant experience in managing staff;
    • demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working and collaborative relations with a broad range of constituencies; and
    • effective oral and written communications skills.

    To be considered for this position, please apply online at apply.interfolio.com/36575.    Questions about the position may be directed to Professor Michael Kirsch, Vice Chair of the search committee, at mkirsch@nd.edu.  Salary and terms of appointment are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    Notre Dame is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes including veterans and individuals with disabilities. We welcome applications from women, members of minority groups, those interested in working at a Catholic university, and others who will enrich and diversify our faculty. The University of Notre Dame supports the needs of dual career couples and has a Dual Career Assistance Program in place to assist relocating spouses and significant others with their job search. The Kresge Law Library is housed in a spacious physical facility that was completely renovated in 2010.  For additional information about the library, visit law.nd.edu/library.    A review of applications will continue until the position is filled.  The search committee anticipates that it will begin conducting initial interviews during late summer or early fall 2016 via Skype or in person.
