    MALL Grants (AALL Deadline, April 13th)

    Grant funds are available to MALL members to attend job-related professional development programs, conferences and workshops, such as the MALL Annual Spring Conference and the AALL Annual Meeting. The deadline for grant applications to attend the AALL Annual Meeting is April 13th so don’t delay.

    MALL Scholarship – Application Deadline April 13th

    Are you, or will you, be enrolled in a degree-granting program that is library-related or law-related such as a library or information science program or a law school J.D. program?  If so, consider applying for a MALL Scholarship!

    MALL makes available a $1,000 scholarship each fiscal year to a MALL member enrolled in a qualified degree granting program. The scholarship is awarded in the spring for use during the first semester of the following academic year. Details, including eligibility requirements, and an application form are available on the MALL website at http://mall.wildapricot.org/page-1829077.

    Have you wondered what grit and mindset have to do with professional success? These traits can be taught and leveraged to enhance professional skills for career advancement.     Sarah Rohne owns a career development consulting practice, Career Empower, LLC, where she individually career consults with professionals, and presents to employers and organizations on professional development topics. Sarah Rohne is also the Employer Relations Director at the University of Minnesota Law School. Her background includes practicing law as an attorney with Meagher & Geer, PLLP in Minneapolis; and employment with national legal staffing agencies as a senior recruiter before joining the University of Minnesota Law School. Her role includes development of local, regional, and national employment opportunities for law students and alumni; and management of professional development training for legal professionals. For many years Sarah has been active in national legal professional development organizations and currently serves in leadership roles with the American Bar Association and National Association for Law Placement. Sarah is also an active leader in Minnesota and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Minnesota Women Lawyers and the Membership Committee of Hennepin County Bar Association. Sarah received her JD from Hamline University School of Law and BA and Organizational Development Certificate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.

    Have you discovered a new product that you think is great? Nominate it for the New Product Award! Nominations may be submitted by librarian users or vendors.

    The deadline is February 1, 2018.

    This award honors new commercial information products that enhance or improve existing law library services or procedures or innovative products which improve access to legal information, the legal research process, or procedures for technical processing of library materials. A "new" product is one which has been in the library-related marketplace for two years or less. New products may include, but are not limited to, computer hardware and/or software, educational or bibliographic material, or other products or devices that aid or improve library workflow, research, or intellectual access. Products that have been reintroduced in a new format or with substantial changes are eligible.

The Research and Business Development Intelligence Analyst conducts legal research to support attorneys in case related matters, and conduct business development research to assist attorneys and staff with identifying prospective clients and preparing for client pitches.

    Responsibilities:

    • Working collaboratively with attorneys, the Marketing and Business Development team and others, you will conduct legal research, business research, competitive intelligence research, and administrative research using electronic and print resources.
    • Conduct in-depth research on and analysis of companies, industries, markets and competitors, delivering objective, meaningful insights in a concise, compelling way.
    • Distill and provide intelligence to create actionable information for business development strategy and client pitch meetings.
    • Coordinate production and delivery of standard customized research deliverables, as well as larger and more in-depth research requests.
    • Anticipate and report on legal and client market trends.
    • Perform administrative duties for the library (password management, case pulls, online billing reports, locate books, general reference questions, etc.).

    Keys to your success include: Masters of Library Science and Information or a Juris Doctorate preferred. Previous law firm library experience also preferred.

    You will also have: Exceptional customer service skills, strong communication and organizational skills, strong analytic skills and ability to synthesize information from a wide variety of sources, the ability to multitask and work in a high paced environment, and computer proficiency and familiarity with legal resource systems.

Please note that a finished, accepted paper is NOT required for you to present! The Abstract Division allows for presentations of works in progress, allowing you to gain valuable feedback from your peers and refine your ideas.     Call for Papers on Topics Related to Law Librarianship, Law, or Libraries

    Mid-America Law Library Consortium (MALLCO) invites proposals for the 2017 MALLCO Paper Workshop. The workshop will take place at the 2017 Joint Meeting of MAALL, LLAW, MichALL, MALL, and CALL on October 19-21 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

    Call for Papers

    For 2017 MALLCO is extending the call to any librarian or staff member at a law library. The Call for Papers Committee invites participants to submit in areas of law librarianship, law, or librarianship in general. Proposals can be submitted in either the abstract or paper division. Participants may present in the form of a traditional academic paper or in an innovative presentation format that engages video, performance, or other media. The presentation should be 20-25 minutes with the remainder of the time reserved for questions, comments, and discussion.

    Abstract Division

    This division is for works in progress, including any papers that have not been accepted for publication by Thursday, September 7, 2017. Individuals should submit the abstract of their presentation in no more than 500 words.

    Paper Division

    This division is for papers that have been accepted for publication from January 1, 2016 through September 7, 2017. Individuals should submit a draft of their paper.

    Deadline

    The deadline for Abstract and Paper Proposals has been extended to Friday, September 8, 2017.

    The University of Minnesota Law Library is accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Reference Librarian.  This position provides legal reference service to Law School faculty, students, staff, and other patrons. Additional duties include creating and editing research guides, and special projects as assigned.

    The Part-Time Reference Librarian reports to the Reference Administration & Web Services Librarian. This is a nine-month, 50% appointment, renewable each academic year, for 20 hours per week including weekday and Sunday hours.
