Research Librarian

Great opportunity for an experienced Research Librarian to join a prominent, 150+ lawyer law firm headquartered in downtown Minneapolis.  This position provides reference and research services, cataloging and print collection maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·                     Provides sophisticated in-depth legal and non-legal research using print and online resources to support the practices of the firm.

·                     Manages library catalog for print and online resources.  Catalogs new materials, maintains and updates library online catalog in EOS.

·                     Demonstrates and maintains knowledge of automated research resources and systems (Westlaw, Lexis, Internet, etc.).

·                     Initiates/assists in the purchase and renewal of new library materials (assesses needs; makes recommendations).

·                     Develops and maintains a general knowledge of outside public and private collections and coordinates requests via the interlibrary loan network.

·                     Provides quick answer reference services and current awareness services to all firm employees.

·                     Assists in maintaining and updating the EOS library management system and the Sharepoint library portal page.

·                     Manages passwords for library systems; administers password lists.

·                     Contributes to department's strategic planning and policy formulation.

·                     Maintains firm history collection. Determines criteria for acceptance of incoming materials.  Develops system for cataloguing existing history collection and its catalog records.

·                     Assists with planning of future library space needs. Maintains, shifts and discards physical shelf collections.

·                     Manages the Library in the Research Services Manager's absence, performing manager's responsibilities.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

·                     BA Degree or equivalent in Library Science.

·                     Five years Library reference experience. Law firm experience strongly preferred.

·                     Cataloging experience and knowledge of EOS system preferred.

·                     Proficient skill level in computer applications necessary to recommend and implement new software and systems.

·                     Experience searching online databases, preferably legal and business specific (Westlaw, Lexus, CCH, RIA, etc). 

·                     Strong problem solving and analytical skills needed to gather information and determine appropriate research approach.

·                     Possess strong service orientation, ability to work independently, multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

·                     Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·                     Must be able to work with confidential issues in a professional manner.
